December's Guitar of the Month Winner!
We’re pleased to announce that the team of Cammie and Ciara, grandmother and granddaughter, are the latest winners of our Guitar of the Month contest! This completely women-built bass is built using Combine's 6-String Bass DIY Kit. Here is their story:
"My 15 year old granddaughter and I built the bass, so this is completely women-built. We finished the neck with 5 coats of tung oil and cabinet wax on top of that. Ciara used five colors of epoxy resin on the body. Prior to that we spent time filling the grain and then used a black base coat. I’m not sure it was necessary to fill the grain, but I wanted to be very sure it had a flat surface when finished. It was not easy to coat both sides, since the resin would run over the sides and the drips would have to be sanded off before the reverse side was coated. I put three coats of satin polyurethane over the top of the epoxy.
All in all it was a lot of fun to build together. Despite the size, it is very easy to play, and didn’t require much work to set up the action or adjust the truss rods. Thanks for making a great kit!" - Cammie and Ciara P.
